We often picture an algorithm-based world when we think of artificial intelligence. When we talk about artificial intelligence, we often forget humans created it and flooded it with data. For AI to exist, it needs an army of hands that tells it what to do and how to think. Philippines are experts in this field because of their low-cost labor. The AI is fed by tens of thousands young people every day.
No diploma required
One entrepreneur in the Philippines’ capital has made AI his speciality. In this facility, 300 employees work full time to annotate all the data for autonomous vehicles or trains as well as for fields such medicine and agriculture. This job does not require a diploma. Some annotators have begun to call this job exploitation.
