It is paradoxical that digital technology with AI at its forefront is seen as the sector to watch, as it’s innovative and can open up all kinds of possibilities in the industry. Software publishers, services companies, technology consultants… all of the companies that will be around in 2023 are included within this sector. The trade association Numeum revealed its findings on Tuesday, December 10. According to Numeum’s observations, the entire industry is expected to grow by only 3.5% between 2022 and 2023. This represents a significant slowdown compared with 2022 (+6.5%).

This change of momentum took place in 2024. Numeum attributes the change in momentum to political instability, which began with the dissolution in June of the National Assembly and led to a decrease in recruitment and investment.

An unfavorable political climate

In anticipation of an improved political outlook, and in the face of instability, loss of confidence and uncertainty, almost 30% of the companies that responded to our survey said they have reduced their recruitment. This is more than three times what it was in 2023. Software publishers, however, are able to maintain their growth, which is limited at 8%. The growth of digital service and technology consultancy companies, on the other hand is only 0.7%.

As a group, the industry consists of software publishers and digital service providers as well as technology consulting firms. The total value is EUR70 billion. The influence and creation of the Internet accounts for 6 to 7 billion euros, which is about 0.2% (of our GDP) or the wealth created by the French Economy over the course of the year. About 300,000 creators of content generate revenues, primarily for major internet platforms. Our business is not publishing or service-based, but rather creation.

According to organizers, influencers have the best growth rates, at 25% annually, during the Paris Creator Week. The event runs from Wednesday, December 11 until Thursday, December 12, in Paris.
