Stores track down the sales staff involved in theft

The sellers who are complicit in the crime of fraud will knowingly fail to scan products to get them past family members, give a “employee’s discount” to friends, or issue a fake refund. Corsight AI claims that it can detect such behavior by simply analyzing the CCTV footage. This is an additional tool that Corsight AI offers stores to detect shoplifting and suspicious behaviors (eating at a store shelf, or intentionally defacing product).

The system identifies “suspicious interaction” , which is if the customer returns to a salesperson repeatedly, or if both parties are being a bit too friendly. It doesn’t read receipts, or the typed information by the assistant. The tool will only alert security personnel to a potential risk. The tool has started to cause controversy. Some people fear, for instance, that even the friendliest and most friendly of salespeople may be singled out.

The system is already in use… somewhere

Corsight does not reveal which stores are using this system, since its clients are mainly large chains. The proliferation of AI-powered camera systems is raising questions. They were banned by the Rite Aid chain in the United States because it wrongly viewed certain customers as thieves, especially black women.

During the Olympic Games in France, there were protests against behavioral cameras and algorithmic video surveillance. The fear was that “Big Brother” would be created. We are most concerned that people place too much faith in the tools which are very new and still make many mistakes.
