AI-based learning will be conducted in what are known as “charter schools” in the USA. It is an independent school that is considered public, but is not part of any academy. The school has some autonomy in terms of the course it offers. In the United States, this public school status can be debated. The funding comes from the public, not the parents. These “charter” schools are also required to produce results and their curriculum and goals are set by contract. In the United States there are 8,000 charter schools that serve nearly 4,000,000 students. This is less than 10%.
Arizona has the highest number of charter schools. Unbound Academy is the company behind artificial intelligence-based learning. It was no accident that they chose Arizona to open their doors.
The school is in the middle.
An online school
Around 250 students, from CM1 through quatrieme will be involved in this experiment. This is a virtual school. Children learn the traditional subjects of reading, maths, and science by using computers for two hours in the morning. In the afternoon, children are exposed to more practical subjects, such as public speaking, coding in computer, teamwork and money management.
Unbound Academy claims that the artificial intelligence, which isn’t ChatGPT, adapts to every student’s pace of learning and level. It’s a kind of personalized teaching. Theoretically, you don’t need a teacher. However, adults are still needed to monitor and assist students.
Learn twice as much in less time
Unbound Academy has already established other facilities in Florida and Texas. Students at the Unbound Academy in Austin are reported to be among the top students across the nation. Alpha School is a private, very expensive school where artificial intelligence allows children to double their learning in two hours. The afternoon class was organized to take advantage of time saved by AI. Unbound Academy is planning to expand their Phoenix school if the results are positive. They have already begun looking at Utah and Arkansas.
